Donna's Tattoo Story

The story behind my 7/7 memorial tattoo.
I am a train operator for London Underground and on the 7th July 2005 many peoples lives were changed forever, including mine.

This was the day that terrorists detonated four bombs on Londons transport system, Three on the underground and 1 on a London bus, which left 52 people dead and hundreds more injured.

I was one of the lucky ones who was not working that day, but sat at home and watched in tears as events unfolded on the news. Two of the Underground bombs were on the line that I drive on, the circle line.

My first thoughts were for my friends who were at work and what they were going through. As many drivers and station staff went into the tunnels to help the injured for almost an hour before the emergency services arrived.

I had the tattoo done almost 1 year after the bombings. Its my way of remember the events of that day. Even though it will stay with me for the rest of my life.

The tattoo was designed and done by Barry from Happy Sailor Tattoo Studio in London. Its the Underground symbol made into a cross with a ribbon with the date on. The two roses represent the two Underground Lines that were affected. Yellow for the cirle line and blue for the piccadilly line.
